Call us @ 044-24321998 to have an initial evaluation or screening done at the hospital itself, before taking the affected person home. The evaluating therapist will be able to identify whether the client would benefit more from therapies at home, at an inpatient rehabilitation centre or an outpatient centre.

“Pain & Stroke Rehab Centre” can provide therapies on all the three options. You can make an educated decision on what works best for your situation given the options.

Ans:In patient services are normally utilised by clients who would benefit more from an intensive rehabilitation program. Therapists who provide inpatient care have a higher level of expertise, It is an intensive program, clients get an opportunity to observe and interact with others going through therapy with similar problems.

peer mentor visits are also arranged for in patient clients to motivate them to accomplish their goals. The functional outcome from an intensive inpatient rehabilitation program will be much more than what you can gain by having therapies done at your home.

The Equipments available at the inpatient centre, skill level of therapists, and other value added services makes the difference.

Do not buy a lot of equipment at the time of discharge from the hospital. chances are you might not need them for too long after you go home. Most of the equipments the affected person needs at the time of discharge will be needed only for a short duration.

If indeed it will be necessary for a longer duration, we need to buy a device which will adapt to the changing needs of the client. Please discuss with us before buying unnecessary equipment. Many items which family buys for the affected person lies unused and unable to be sold. There are rental options available as well.

PSRC is in touch with organisations who can provide financial assistance to clients who cannot afford therapies on a case by case basis. contact us for details.

We at Pain & Stroke Rehab Centre believe in a problem solving approach where the therapist is a moderator who collects information from patient, family and uses his knowledge as an expert to come up with the best solution for the problem at hand. Therapy is customised to the individual and families goals.

Rehabilitation through learning: We educate the patient and their family members on how a normal person does the task, how the patient is doing it differently. We strive to gain recovery to near normalcy. in situations where near normal recovery is not likely, we counsel the client and family members on what to accept, how to adapt to the new situation and function independently in the community.

Physiotherapy should address the particular needs of the client. For eg. A client wants to be able to stand and wear his pants but is not able to at this time.

Physiotherapist in this situation should be able to break the task into its components. To do this activity, one has to be able to stand on one leg , lift the other leg high enough or bend the trunk low enough, so he can insert his leg into his pant’s leg. This is a dynamic effort, the task requires good amount of balance reactions, flexibility at the trunk and hip , strength on the leg which is on the floor as well as the one held up. His hip and trunk mobility/flexibility has to be enough to complete the task.

A Physiotherapist will identify the missing components and plan a treatment program to achieve the requisites. If the condition of the client is such that it is not likely to recover , then the strategy of the therapist should change to teaching the client adaptive ways like wearing the pant leaning against a wall or putting it on in the lying position itself or using a reacher. This process of achieving the function the normal way or finding an alternate way is called functional rehabilitation.

Yes. Many of our previous clients and their family, have accepted to share their experiences with new clients who are going through similar difficulties. They will be happy to talk to you or even come over, visit with the client if necessary to motivate them. Meeting families or the patient themselves can give a great feeling of “Yes, I have hope”, to new patients.

Coma stimulation is done by therapists to comatose brain injured clients.Coma recovery programs aim to provide multiple sensory stimulation(auditory, tactile, visual, olfactory, taste and proprioception) to patients in coma or vegetative state. It is hoped that with intense and repetitive stimulation, the patient will awaken and return to a higher level of functioning.

Coma arousal therapy is believed to provide the sensory stimulation needed to activate the reticular system, which is responsible for maintaining consciousness. These procedures are appropriate for any individual who is in coma or vegetative state and is medically stable.

Coma Stimulation Program.

The goal of this program is to improve arousal and responsiveness in an individual emerging from a coma. This is accomplished by exposing the patient to sensory stimulation designed to elicit purposeful, goal-directed responses. Utilizing the JFK-Coma Recovery Scale, a standardized instrument for grading progress, therapists work with the individual to maximize his or her physical, emotional and functional potential. Family and/or caregiver education are also provided, so that they become active members coma stimulation team.

After a long hospital people tend to be deconditioned. Their medical condition would not have created the problem directly, but being in bed immobile for any time more than a few days can make you weak. A short program of rehabilitation puts you back on your feet much earlier than just allowing nature to take its time.
