RAVI RANGANATHAN
A Career Shaped by Experience
Dr. Ravi Ranganathan graduated from the Government College of Physiotherapy, Chennai, in 1986. He began his professional career at the Government Institute of Child Health and Hospital, where he worked for seven years and built a strong foundation in clinical practice.
Seeking to broaden his professional experience, he moved to the United States, where he spent nine years working in neurological rehabilitation settings. His time there gave him exposure to different clinical approaches, rehabilitation practices, and models of patient care.
Bringing a Vision Home
When Dr. Ravi Ranganathan returned to India, he wanted to make the benefits of his international experience relevant to the people in his own community.
His vision was to bring the quality and principles of rehabilitation he had experienced in the United States to local patients, while adapting them to the resources available in India and ensuring that care remained practical and affordable.
In 2003, he established Pain & Stroke Rehabilitation Centre with this vision.
Beyond Treatment
Dr. Ravi Ranganathan believes that the success of rehabilitation is ultimately reflected in how a person is able to live their life after therapy.
For this reason, rehabilitation at PSRC is viewed in the context of the individual’s everyday environment — their home, family, work, and community. Where appropriate, the focus extends beyond clinical improvement to helping individuals resume meaningful activities and reintegrate into their communities.
Clinical Expertise
With several decades of clinical experience, Dr. Ravi Ranganathan has worked extensively with neurological and orthopaedic conditions, with particular experience in neurological rehabilitation and complex cases.
His clinical practice has included the rehabilitation of individuals with stroke, neurological disabilities, mobility difficulties, orthopaedic conditions, and other challenges affecting daily function.
His approach is centred on understanding each individual’s needs and working towards practical goals that are relevant to their everyday lives.
Mentoring & Professional Development
Dr. Ravi Ranganathan also has a strong interest in teaching and mentoring physiotherapists.
He conducts and supports clinical training and educational programmes for young physiotherapists, both within and outside the organisation. Through mentorship, he shares his experience and encourages the development of sound clinical judgement and practical skills.
The PSRC Philosophy
The vision that led to the establishment of PSRC continues to guide its approach today:
To make meaningful rehabilitation accessible, practical, and relevant to the lives of the people we serve.
For Dr. Ravi Ranganathan, this means looking beyond the treatment session and considering what matters most to each individual — their ability to participate, connect with others, and lead as independent a life as possible.
Continuing the Journey
Since establishing PSRC in 2003, Dr. Ravi Ranganathan has continued to combine his clinical experience, international exposure, and commitment to education in the pursuit of better rehabilitation care.
His journey continues to be driven by a simple purpose: to help people make meaningful progress in their recovery and return to the lives and communities that matter to them.
