About
Rizwana Begum, MPT (Neurology), is a Senior Physiotherapist at Pain & Stroke Rehab Centre, bringing over five years of hands-on experience in neurorehabilitation, including work across ICU, inpatient and outpatient neuro care. She works primarily with patients recovering from stroke, brain injury and other neurological conditions.
She believes recovery works best when treatment plans are built around each patient’s specific goals, and works within a multidisciplinary team with a focus on long-term independence. She also makes a point of helping patients and their families understand what’s happening at each stage of recovery.
Clinical Areas
Primary focus — Neurological rehabilitation
- Stroke & brain injury (acute to chronic)
- Spinal cord injury
- Neuromuscular & vestibular conditions
Also treats
- Musculoskeletal & post-operative orthopaedic rehab
- Pain management
- Balance & strength conditioning for older adults
- Pre- & postnatal care
- Paediatric developmental & sensory-motor challenges
Treatment Expertise
Rizwana’s neuro-rehab toolkit draws on NDT/Bobath principles and sensory integration techniques, alongside goal-oriented functional mobility training, gait training and balance retraining. Much of her work is task-oriented — practising the specific daily activities a patient needs back, rather than exercises in isolation.
Approach to rehab
Treatment plans are built around each patient’s specific goals rather than a standard template, and progressed in close collaboration with the wider care team. Throughout, Rizwana keeps a steady focus on what a patient will actually need to do independently once therapy ends — and on making sure patients and families understand the reasoning behind each stage of the plan.
